No mention of the increase in drunk driving incidents being caused by smoking bans?

This is me being completely shocked.

Yeah, that guys sounds like he was looking for the objective truth, not pushing an agenda. Gotta love scientists!

Would anyone trust a study saying that the economy was hurt when it is funded by Philip Morris? Thank you ClearWay for creating this study!

@Schroeder, That drunk driving study says much more about the irresponsibility of smokers than it does about the positive effects on health that smoking bans provide. The conclusion of the study is that smokers drive further to find places where they can both drink and smoke, thus forcing them to make the poor decision of getting completely trashed and then driving back home. There are two simple solutions to that problem: 1, Quit smoking (It's terrible for your health and for the people around you) and 2, don't drive home intoxicated, get a cab! Further, reporting drunk driving rates or discussing them was well outside the scope of this study, so why would they report it?

@guy, I think it's a bit of a stretch to strike down the conclusions of a study based on the funding source. Scientists apply for grants. These grants have specific topics such as, "What are the economic impacts of smoking bans?" Scientists apply for the grant, detailing their qualifications and methods, and then they test their hypotheses. Finally they report the results. That's all that's been done here. Just because the funding source is biased, doesn't mean that the science is bad or biased. It's also not a hard to believe the conclusions of this study, it's not like they said cigarettes don't cause cancer.
