I'm sure the tiny sample size and location of the school probably heavily confounds this study BUT I still thought it was interesting how early the kid's food perceptions had been determined.  It's probably rteally important that we start teaching healthier choices early!

The French did a study from between 1982 to 1999 at a Nursery in Dijon that looked at children's eating habits. They noted that from 2 to 3, kids really liked bland foods. Very mild cheeses, overcooked beef and white meat chicken, plain white rice, etc. And that they rejected any foods that had any strong flavors - green vegetables, lamb, dark meat chicken, blue cheese. And when they looked at tastes from 4 to 6, kids, if given the choice, were willing to eat bigger flavors. However, if the parents were cooking the exact same foods that the kids were eating when younger, the kids ended up going after fattier and sweeter foods if given the choice.

I've always wondered if it was some cross between development of papillary cells and culture. It does seem that if you expose your kids to a bigger variety of foods more often, they're less likely to fall back on high fat, high sugar foods. This study supports that earlier Dijon study.

I now want to take my 2yo nephew and turn him on to stuff different from what my cousin and his girlfriend are raising him on (white rice and chicken every night? seriously???).

I had a friend in grad school which ate the same two things every day. Chicken and mac-n-cheese. He never deviated. He claimed he hated to eat, and if he could get his sustenance from a pill, he'd do so.

I never got that. I love to eat, and when I travel, it's the one thing I look forward to doing more than anything else (including sightseeing).

I just eat the same thing because it's much easier to count the calories.  Plus nearly every weight lifter will tell you their diet is essentially chicken breast and broccoli :P
