1. Informative observation...stunning image...

2. In the ~mid-1970s, a white (as in the penguin case, probably not albino), male, sub-adult mantled howler monkey (Alouatta palliata Gray) moved through Hacienda La Pacifica, Canas, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. After numerous, unsuccessful, attempts to gain membership (initially, a vocal process) in a howler group inhabiting the ranch, this young male with white pelage disappeared. The proximate (immediate) and ultimate (evolutionary) import of such phenomena in nature are interesting to contemplate.

3. Finally, I am curious to know whether the phenomena under discussion are occurring at a higher rate in response to increased environmental stress.
