After a frustrating year on the tenure-track job hunt, my eyes are still on the prize, and I've learned that sheer will might be the most important quality required for this career track.
My posts are presented as opinion and commentary and do not represent the views of LabSpaces Productions, LLC, my employer, or my educational institution.

NIH: Parental leave longer than 3 months is a "life choice," doesn't count as "real" maternal leave
First - thanks to everyone for the well wishes and kind words in emails, tweets, and comments since my last post. I was at my rock bottom when I wrote it, and your messages have meant soooo much these past days.
As an update - I've been on Zoloft for several days now and am already feeling some positive effects. It seems a fog is starting to lift, and the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel is starting to shine. I even enjoyed some of my weekend with the Monkey, something I haven't been able to honestly say in a long time, if at all. I also started seeing a therapist this morning and really appreciated the chance to talk to someone about all the feelings that have been swirling around in my head. With the continuation of these two therapies, I think I'll start coping with motherhood quite a bit more effectively.
As for the blog - I'll be back to writing fairly soon, although I think I'll be doing most of my blogging on The Tightrope for a little while. Until I'm ready to write about career-related stuff again, I'm not sure I want to be clogging up the LabSpaces network with talk of motherhood and postpartum depression...these just don't seem to fit that well under the LS banner. If you're game for that brand of blogging, however, follow me over to my old blog home. Hope to see some of you there soon.

I'd love to follow along at The Tightrope, but I only ever remember to check on blogs if they have an RSS feed that can pull updates. Your RSS feed at The Tightrope redirects back to your LabSpaces blog. Any chance of changing it back so it actually updates for that partciular blog, if you'll be blogging material exclusively over there and not posting it here as well?
This LabTimeSpaceCube place is the laughing stock of the entire science blogosphere, and your credibility is negatively impacted by being here. Why don't you just go back to your old blog completely?

Why are you such a fricking troll?
Why does SpaceCubeLabTime sucke so miserably? Why has the dumshitte that runs it refused to take seriously any of the excellent advice he has been given about how to make it not sucke so miserably? Why are all of your decent bloggers fleeing a sinking shippe?
CPP, this is not the place for you to troll on about how much you dislike the website. You're one comment away from a permanent ban. Clean up your act.
HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!! Go ahead and ban me permanently, dumshitte!!!! That'll do wonders for your credibility!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. O,
It is such a relief to hear that you are doing better. Thanks for the update and giving us a chance to tell you how much we care.
Brian- I think no one will disagree with me when I ask for the inappropriate comments left here to be deleted. They are not part of the discussion at hand.
Dr. O- so glad to hear that! The combination of medicine and talking is usually optimal, but maybe blogging can play a positive role too! Whether you are here or there, motherhood or career, I'll follow as a reader.
Jade- I disagree. I don't care for CPP's comments here at all and if Dr. O prefers them gone that's reasonable- it should be her call. That said, I was somewhat confused by random tweets early this morning until I read the comment thread- there may be others who can use the history/context that leaving the comments would provide.
I'm glad to hear things are looking up. It is great that you are doing whatever it takes to get back to your old self! (hugs)
I'll miss you! But I will definitely catch your other blog! . . .Read More
