I'm going to fucking stab you!
You team-killing fucktard I want to shove you into a pond and hold you down until the bubbles stop coming up. Okay, that's a little harsh but lets rewind back to yesterday. We have designated workspace in our lab for radiation that also has a few common pieces of equipment nearby like heat blocks, minifuge, etc. So yesterday my kick ass lab manager was doing a regular inspection of the area and the Geiger counter sounded like it was having a fucking ecstasy-induced discotech seizure. Not that you had used radiation recently, it had been almost a week ago that you did. You claimed to have checked the work station to see if it was hot after you were finished and found nothing. I'm calling bullshit you dumpsterbaby, lets establish some facts, we don't magically get stuff radioactive after not working with it, the shit does not inverse decay fucktard. And more importantly you are the only person in the lab using radiation and you used it last week. And you dim-witted fucking slob. Normally I wouldn't give a shit that you contaminated that work station as I don't use it but you contaminated the minifuge and the heat blocks. And guess who uses those from time to time. Yeah folks this picture is not getting better. Come to find out my bench was hot since I usually restriction digest in that heat block, spin down my stuff and run the gels at my bench. So I spent the last fucking hour decontaminating my bench. I am a vengeful man and under normal circumstances would have made the offending party do it for me but you are too fucking incompetent to even be trusted now. I have previously blogged about how fucking over your head you are in (reposted below). Keep this shit up and I'm going to make an effigy of you in the lab, spritz it with some radioactive liquid waste, light the fucker on fire by your station and go home like that crazy airline flight attendant. Except I'm not sure if they would find me in bed with fiancee after explaining what I did, the authorities might find me sleeping in my car. Because if I quit my job, set shit on fire, and am probably head to jail soon, the last thing on her mind is not lets do it. This dude goes of the deep end and gets a blow job and a high five. Life is unfair.

Previous post about said graduate student in the lab entitled, "How to tell someone they are in over their head."
So our noob grad student in the lab is having a bad run of luck lately. This past week she tried to present the first experiment of her project that she was working on and look completely bewildered. She couldn't really explain anything that she was doing and her gels that she showed were not labeled. Eventually a postdoc had to jump in to make corrections and hand hold her through the explanation of what she was doing. Then later this week she got bitched out for the boss for not getting the experiment done as well as not being radiation safety certified. The last point is the most irritating, she was informed that she would be using labeling techniques for virtually her entire project and would need to be certified and told to get it done as soon as possible. So when the training class rolled around, guess who did not sign up for it. She even admitted to when it was in lab meeting and said that she just didn't sign up for it. Epic fail. So now a collaboration between the boss, lab manager, postdoc, the PI, and I are trying to help her through this first experiment until she gets certified. This has been nothing short of a huge fucking thorn in our side. She seems to not be able to think for herself and spins the wheel of misfortune to determine which one of us to go ask a question that probably could have been found through google, the red books, or worse the fucking protocol in her hands. I'm not saying I think she should be able to float on her own but she has been in our lab about 6 months (including her 10 week rotation) and she has a masters. So I expect for her to at least be able to think on her feet. My boss is really frustrated with her and I'm thinking about having a mini-intervention with her to tell her to get her shit in gear. This would not be my first intervention with her also. I had to have the fucking come to Jesus talk with her before her presentation on her 10 week rotation when she could not explain what her enzyme that she studied did.

What a fucker. I will be tremendously happy when we finally have a replacement for all radioactive applications in lab. It's a giant ass-pain to deal with, generates a shit-ton of waste, and inevitably you end up with some moron who can't work cleanly and the whole lab becomes hot.

That person is hazardous to have in the lab! Your PI needs to do have a shape up or ship out talk with this person. You don't screw around with radioactivity.

Sounds like it's time for her to get bitched out again. That's terrible EVENTHOUGH I think people who whine about lab radiation are pansies. I got more than 100X that dose while getting my 2 CT scans the other day... Enforcing lab radiation protocol (in most cases) just gives some drooler in EHS a power trip job.

I swear one more screw up and I'm going to hit her on the back of the neck with a fucking roll of quarters. Brian I am not concerned about exposure, more just pissed off that I have to clean up the contamination. I agree DGT every lab that does radiation always has a screw up and I think we know who my lab's is.

What? What kind of gel was it? I'm an undergrad and I could explain that...3 years ago. How does she have a masters?!

She has an MS although I cannot now vouch for the validity of that. At lab meeting in the lower post she was incapable of interpreting just a simple agarose gel. And to top it off she imploded a tube inside the centrifuge this morning.

Maybe she didn't do it...maybe it's like some weird quantum effect?

Or not.

P32, so I wasn't worried, more of just a procedural issue of being a fuckup. As a lab, without her knowledge, we decided to put the training wheels back on.

Why are you guys using P32 rather than P33?

TJ we tried a while ago but P33 doesn't have enough decay energy and so the P32 is a bit more sensitive for what we do.
