Damn Good Technician

I'm a technician at a big ol' pharmaceutical company. A damn good technician, if I do say so myself.

My posts are presented as opinion and commentary and do not represent the views of LabSpaces Productions, LLC, my employer, or my educational institution.

Awesome Stuff
Friday, August 20, 2010

DrDGT & I were at the bank this afternoon for an hour or so, signing documents to refinance our home.

We returned, and found our house had been broken into: our laptops stolen, my grandmother's diamond necklace stolen, among a host of other shit.

Goddammit.

This, unhappily, is coming a week & a half after we were in a car accident on the way to work.

Goddammit some more.

DGT,
That's way beyond sucking. I'm so sorry to hear about this. As Brian said, if there's any way I can help, don't hesitate to let me know.

I thought we were just joking about the LabSpaces curse!

In seriousness, that blows out my scale of suckitude, DGT. Ditto on letting me know if there's any way I can help.

Thanks, y'all. Mostly it's just stuff that's missing, and our insurance will cover it, but it is still ridiculously crappy.

Anybody have some music they'd like to share with me? My 120GB iTunes library has simply vanished. [Sad face]

Oh my gosh. That sucks on so many levels. Friggin' douchnozzle burglars. Do you still have your iPod? You can reverse the library onto a new computer with some bootleg software.

ITunes? You should be able to redownload your entire library if you bought them.

Nope, iPods stolen. More jewelry stolen. Computer peripherals, camera, cash, other small things. Happily, our cat appears to have successfully hidden and chose not to escape out the broken-into window - small victories, right?

DGT, I am so, so sorry. SO happy to hear your cat is OK, though, it is basically my worst fear that someone breaks in and something happens to my cats! Also I have a fuckton of music that I'm happy to share with you! Email me and we'll figure it all out.

What has also been fun is that since I called the insurance company at 4:30 on Friday afternoon, nothing is going to happen on the "getting our shit back" front until Monday. Extra boooo.

I think you should request a one-time rate reduction on your insurance premium. I mean, since they're not working weekends and you have no shit to insure over the weekend, it seems only fair.

Holy crap!! That's terrible!!! Really sorry to hear that.. I can relate. Our apt has been broken into several times over the yrs. The worst was while we were abroad visiting fam in europe. My lil sis flew back a day earlier than us, to find the front door wide open and the place a complete wreck, they were assholes about it too, emptied all the kitchen cabinets and drawers just for fun.

Make sure that you log out of everything on a different computer and change passwords.
If you change your password on iTunes, and email them, they'll likely let you re-download everything.

This totally sucks, and I'm sorry that you had to go through this. I'm a little bit conspiracy theorist, but find out if anyone else that had meetings at that bank got stuff stolen, cause it sounds like they knew you'd be gone for a while.

And I'd be happy to send you some music!

Aggh! So sorry to hear this terrible news DGT. Bummer cubed to lose the pictures. Hmm, maybe I'd better look I to some sort of backup strategy...

I know someone who were robbed while they and their kids were home. The person thought it was just someone else coming home and didn't go to investigate when they heard some noises.

If you have any nearby pawnshops you might want to start checking them, you might get lucky and at least get the jewelry back.

And yeah, start checking pawnshops ASAP

I'm just catching up on blog.... (reminds me to change that link!)

I'm so sorry to hear! I don't know if you can access someone else's Itunes librarey but if you want to... feel free. I can always email you a hub link or whatever they're called (clueless on a Saturday that'd be me).

Hope you can find some of the stuff. And losing my computer would suck! Even if I have tried the last couple of months to keep a backup drive - it's not fool proof...
