If Oregon wins out, they'll play either Bama or Auburn.

LOL, I think I'm going to get more points from last week when I forgot to make my picks.  At least then I had an excuse!

If Auburn goes undefeated and wins the SEC championship, they'll play Oregon.  No offense to BSU or TCU but you have to play some more ranked teams and Auburn by the end of the season as it stands today will have played two #12, a #7, and a #6 ranked team.

Do you think it will be Oregon vs. Auburn? or Boise? or TCU?

She's gloating about Baylor? I would let her gloat all she wants because it's probably the only year in your lifetime together that Baylor will have a team worth gloating over.  You won't ever have to suffer it again.

Looks like it's going to be Oregon at the National Championship this year. Go PAC 10!!!

That's no joke about Baylor, my fiancee (Baylor alum) has been giving me shit about it since Saturday..

What I feared was realized. Mizzou kicked our butts. And now Baylor is 1st in the Big XII South? Armageddon is surely right around the corner.

The only consolation was that Texass lost this weekend too.

As much as it pains me to say it, all the more reason OU deserves that #1 if they make it through. It'll be a tough road, though.

Posted by: Thomas Joseph
Posted on: Mon, Oct 18, 2010, 1:22 pm CDT

It's going to be a harrowing few weeks.

1. Mizzou won't be a pushover, especially at home. Seeking revenge for us treating them like the red-headed stepchild over the past few years won't help us either.

2. For some reason Colorado always plays us close.

3. Texas A&M in College Station is scary.

4. Baylor can put up points this year and OU can give up the big play.

5. Playing OSWho? in Stoolwater will be a toughie as well.

We looked rough this week, but hat tip to TJ's OU.  They were pretty solid, except for when Jones just dropped the damn ball, but he had the wherewithal to knock it out of bounds.

Posted on: Sun, Oct 03, 2010, 1:17 pm CDT

And this week's game shows that Texas is just not gonna be good this year. Seriously, could we have screwed up more against OU? I'm scared to death of Nebraska in 2 weeks, and I'm not sure how we'll handle Baylor at the end of the month. I'm just praying for a bowl game at this point...maybe the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl or something.

Posted on: Mon, Sep 27, 2010, 9:26 am CDT

Saturday's game showed that UT's offense cannot step up to help out when the defense is having a bad day after they have been bailing out their sorry asses in every single other game this year.

Posted on: Mon, Sep 27, 2010, 9:09 am CDT

Jade Ed: I like our chances this weekend. Texas got stomped (was thrilled to see that score!) but I don't think they'll be able to rebound against OU (at least I hope not!) OU is doing just enough to win, but they're showing great resolve. Last year these games went against them, and the chips are falling our way this year. I hope it keeps up.

Oh, and Arkansas ... nice way to throw that game away! Idiots! You HAD Alabama, dead to rights!
Posted by: Dr. O
Posted on: Sun, Sep 26, 2010, 10:02 pm CDT

TX looked like crap yesterday. I wasn't expecting them to be great this year, but they're making way too many idiotic mistakes to even stay in the top 25. The defense against UCLA's running game looked awful, too; OU will run all over us if Muschamp doesn't change something.
Posted by: Genomic Repairman
Posted on: Sun, Sep 26, 2010, 11:12 am CDT

Jade Ed, OU will be playing a Texas team that has been overrated (and finally exposed). If folks thought they were going to compete for the national championship this year, they were delusional. Its a rebuilding year, the defense is stout but the offense is still trying to get it together.

Posted on: Sat, Sep 25, 2010, 7:25 pm CDT

How about that? Christmas came early for UCLA with a win over Texas (at Texas, no less).
Can you imagine how many people lost their ass in Vegas today?

Tom- next week Texas plays OU- so either your boys will play a very angry Texas team or maybe they just ain't that good? Thoughts?

Not related to shit talking but to sports. If you are looking for a funny sports podcast that dabbles in pop culture. Scoot on over to iTunes and look at the ESPN Tony Kornheiser podcast. I used to listen to his local (D.C.) radio show when it streamed online and loved it. I found it again yesterday on the iTunes podcast and its still as awesome as it used to be.

@TJ - Air Force tends to keep games really close, even when they're outmatched; they just seem to know how to hang in there. Now that we're out of Lubbock (big sigh of relief), the Red River Rivalry is shaping up to be a pretty interesting game. I really miss making it to Dallas for that one.

And the Cowboys officially suck - my loyalties are now completely focused on the Horns this year.

So either Oklahoma sucks, or Air Force is better than people are giving them credit for? If Oklahoma sucks then Free Shoes University must really be rotten!

I'll take 3-0 over 0-3 any day of the week, regardless of how we got there!

Plus, got to love the Jets putting a serious hurting on the Patsies! Next week, we squish the fish!

OK- while Detroit is losing as I write this, they didn't get blown out. At least they made it somewhat close.
There is still 3 minutes left in the game.
EDITED: 1:30 left and it is 32 to 35.....Come on Detroit!!!

I can't believe the Vikings let Miami beat them and Cincy looked so bad last week, there was no way I could choose them, but they came through. (4 turnovers Baltimore? Really?)

GR I am looking forward to this week's last place trophy and I think it should involve spanking and Ines Sainz.

Has anyone else picked their NFL teams yet? I don't see any other picks.
For my upsets this week, I am going with Detroit over Philly, Jets over New England, and Giants over Indy.

I also picked Jacksonville over San Diego because SD looked so bad last week.

What games do you think will be the upsets?

I was at the Alabama - Texas National Championship game last year and I can attest that the 'Bama fans were very well behaved. They were too quiet actually. They didn't gloat at all.
Maybe they understood they got lucky when the Texas QB left the game in the first quarter with an injury.

What games are people excited to watch this weekend? No. 9 Iowa at No. 24 Arizona?

I felt like the only Penn State fan south of the Mason-Dixon line of Saturday night. Thankfully 'Bama fans are almost invariably corn-fed shit for brain douchebags, so I had fun goading the rednecks for a while. Then Tennessee got chewed up and spit out.

Yup- OU had no problem with FSU, as I predicted.

So they probably will win but I bet it will be a closer score than that- more like 3.

As I am in Vegas at the moment, maybe I'll place a bet on the OU game Saturday. I'll tell you what the line is later.

Before going to the sports book, I am getting this crazy seaweed massage/detox treatment. I need to know what it's like to be covered in sea plants and marine algae and then cocooned in foil. It is supposed to detoxify your whole body. I so need that :-).

Back to sports talk....did anyone see Clijsters play yesterday? She is one tough chick.

@Jade: Yes, those lower-tier FBS* teams, and all the FCS* teams get paid to go play at the big dogs places and take their lumps. About 99.99% of the time just that happens. Then you get teams like Ole Miss which let Jacksonville State beat them. Ha ha ha.

As for Free Shoes U. yeah, I'm worried. Our secondary stunk last weekend, and Landry Jones stunk up the second half as well. The first half things looked good, the second half it was if a different team came out of the locker room. I hope it was a case of the kids reading their own press clippings and that Utah State disabused them of that notion. The FSU game will setup the rest of our season. We beat FSU, we have a good chance of going undefeated. If we lose, I see a couple more losses in our future.

*FBS - Football Bowl Subdivision (previously known as Division I-A)
*FCS - Football Championship Subdivision (previously known as Division I-AA)

Only football broke Division I down into I-A and I-AA.

Hi Tom,
So do you think OU is going to lose to FSU? Sounds like you have your doubts. I think OU is going to put all their non-conference teams to bed, lights out.
As for UCLA, their coach has this year to prove himself or he'll be out of a job. He's recruited the entire teams so they need to perform. They looked pretty weak against Kansas St.

USC always pads their non-c schedule but I think the teams that play them get money for it, is that right? That's what I've been told. They get paid to basically take an ass-whipping.

@TJ - I'm surprised to see you had a kind thing to say about Texas (Hook 'em). After Rice this past week, I don't know what to think about their chances. Although the game was technically "away", and we did put them away more easily than how y'all handled Utah State. That said, I don't envy your non-conference schedule one bit.

@GR - Didn't realize you were a Texas fan...should've known after the Shiner Bock comment a couple of weeks back. Nice to see a friendly face around these parts, even if you do hate the 'Boys. ;)

I think we will first. You guys had your scare and I think you are more apt to get your shit together. At some point we will stop playing junior colleges and DII schools and take on somebody good. I'm thinking the Tech game is going to be scary considering the last time they traveled to Lubbock the results were not so good. And I am actually a fan of Tuberville and watched him at Auburn.

Posted on: Tue, Sep 07, 2010, 11:12 am CDT

Oh, and GR ... who is going to flinch first? Texas or Oklahoma?
Posted by: Thomas Joseph
Posted on: Tue, Sep 07, 2010, 8:56 am CDT

Probably shouldn't talk any smack this morning since Oklahoma barely got by Utah State. With that said however, a win is a win. I'm laughing at calling FSU, Air Force, and Cincy "sacrificial lambs". Florida State is ranked 20th (sure to move up after this weekends shellacking of Samford). Cincinnati is down from last year, but it's in Cincy and road games are always trouble, especially in the middle of the season. Air Force runs the option, and you hardly see it anymore so game planning is going to be critical to get the win in that game.

I'd much rather play USC's non-con schedule. Oh in regards to UCLA, Kansas State sucks. The only thing brutal about that game should have been the traveling. Guess UCLA is ready for another mediocre season.
Posted by: Suzy
Posted on: Sat, Sep 04, 2010, 1:38 pm CDT

Only Utah, Air Force, FSU, and Cincy are the out of conference teams so the other games are not of their choosing.
OU should easily win all four of their non-conference games. A lot of sacrificial lambs. Why not add Kansas or Kansas State, both Big 12 conference teams to the schedule?

USC plays Hawaii, Virginia, Minnesota, and Notre Dame as their non-conference games. Notre Dame is always tough. I think ND will take it.

UCLA plays Kansas St. AT Kansas St. and Texas AT Texas- two brutal schools- in their non-conference schedule. If they win these, they should beat the rest of the PAC10.

#1 Alabama has San Jose State and Duke on their schedule. Nice way to pad the wins. On the other hand, maybe Penn State will give them a good work out.

Posted on: Sat, Sep 04, 2010, 9:13 am CDT

I agree with Jade Ed the only "easy" game is against Baylor and honestly their stadium isn't too big so it will almost feel like a home game because I'm sure the OU fans will come out.
Posted by: Suzy
Posted on: Sat, Sep 04, 2010, 2:15 am CDT

You're an OU alumunus so of course you want to defend your team. Let's look at the schedule.

09/04/10 vs. Utah State Norman 6:00 PM CT (OU should take it no problem)
09/11/10 vs. Florida State Norman 2:30 PM CT (half-assed. Easy win for OU)
09/18/10 vs. Air Force Norman 2:30 PM CT (not that great the last few years, but good for a small school. OU wins.)
09/25/10 at Cincinnati Cincinnati, Ohio TBA (An art school, but the new coach has improved the team significantly. Put your money on OU.)
10/02/10 vs. Texas Dallas, Texas 2:30 PM CT (#5- will be a tough game, finally. Rivals. Anyone's game.)
10/16/10 vs. Iowa State Norman TBA (#9 so should be a close game.)
10/23/10 at Missouri Columbia, Mo. TBA (Strong team)
10/30/10 vs. Colorado Norman TBA (they suck. An OU gimme)
11/06/10 at Texas A&M College Station, Texas TBA (supposed to be decent, but OU will take it.)
11/13/10 vs. Texas Tech Norman TBA (not ranked this year, should be an easy win for OU)
11/20/10 at Baylor Waco, Texas TBA (Awful. Stick to science Baylor. OU massacre)
11/27/10 at Oklahoma State Stillwater, Okla. TBA (might be tough for OU, but they should win).
12/04/10 Big 12 Championship Arlington, Texas TBA

OU season: 11 wins and 1 loss (to Texas)

Nope- not a TN fan. Can't stand when teams gloat over easy wins.

Jade,

You want to talk about Oklahoma taking on a easy teams? Did you see their next four games after that?

1. Free Shoes University
2. Air Force
3. Cincy
4. Texass

All of them are good or great teams. If there is one thing that Oklahoma does not lack this year ... it's strength of schedule. And with all your hate on USC (granted, they deserve it) ... are you a Tennessee fan or something?
Posted by: Suzy
Posted on: Fri, Sep 03, 2010, 3:23 pm CDT

Why is it that all the best teams get to pad their schedule with easy teams? Check out some of these opening games. Bunch of pussies. (I'm allowed to say that here?)

USC #14(Southern Cal) played Hawaii (USC wins 49 to 36- pretty embarrassing for them to let Hawaii score that much)
Alabama (#1) plays San Jose State (huh?)
Ohio State (#2) played Marshall (won 45-7)
Florida (#4) plays Miami, OH
Texas (#5) plays Rice
Oklahoma (#7) plays Utah State
Nebraska (#8) plays Western Kentucky
Iowa (#9) plays Eastern Illinois

Not pussies:
#3 Boise plays #10 Virginia Tech (finally a good game!)
#6 TCU is playing #24 Oregon State

Hoping to see some upsets after Saturday.

USC meaning Southern Cal. This is the team that was #3 in the country but thought they should have been named #1 so went and bought themselves a trophy. This USC is in deep shit for violating all kinds of NCAA recruiting rules.
Their coach bailed right before all the rules violations were uncovered. The new coach is Lane Kiffin, a former Raiders coach who was fired for lying.
Should be a great year for the PAC 10!

I wish U South Carolina well in their endeavors.
