I wanted to check and see if anyone else was going to post about a lab mistake/work mistake story for Tuesday?

I'll have a story ready.

Hmm.. not sure I'd want to write about someone else's mistake.. plus I don't know all the details. I think I'll just write up a short paragraph and point a link to the spill and rocket fire malfunction posts.

OK- so we will write about a lab mistake?

Evie- your story of the spilled fuel is so good- maybe you could re-post it? Or write about a mistake one of your colleagues made that you were SO GLAD wasn't you?

Jade - OH YES.

I have a few lab mistakes that I could talk about ... but, they all made me a better scientist.
I 100% love this idea :D

I was thinking about writing a post about my worst lab mistake. Anyone up for that?

I was also thinking about writing about a rule I have for myself that I learned the hard way- does anyone want to write about that- maybe like your #1 lab rule or work rule and why it became your rule? Some wisdom to impart to other people so they don't have to make the same mistake you did? Maybe your rule for how to get along with others?

I'd be up for it.

I couldn't do it last month, but I'm back on board.

I think so few people did it because it was before the holidays, and everyone was really, really busy (I know that was my reason).

BUT, we've gotten some good stuff from writing them, and I think its a great idea.

Haha, I think we gave up on this when only 2 people did it last time...

Don't forget about this theme day coming up next week Dec 14. The paper that most inspired your work!

First paper influential to your science (or you can post on your first paper) - Due December 14th

Wasnt there some noise about The First paper? Either your own Big Science moment, or the first paper that really *hit* you?

So, what's this month's theme going to be?

Posted on: Sun, Oct 31, 2010, 7:41 pm CDT

Um... so I evidently wasn't paying much attention to what month my calendar was on when I posted the date in the other blog theme forum. We've been running these the first Tuesday of the month, but I said the next one would be Nov. 7... which is not a Tuesday. In light of this oversight/misreading, I say the next theme day will be next Tuesday, Nov. 9. The theme is mentoring styles.

Reminder: The next theme day will be Tuesday, October 5 (as in 4 days from now). The topic is what you'd be doing if you weren't doing "this", with "this" being your day to day work, not blogging ;)

Next theme:
"What I wish I knew before..." Free range with what follows the ellipsis - grad school? postdoc? job? science? new city? getting hammered with your boss? agreeing to join a committee? Be serious, creative, funny-basically whatever you're in the mood for :)

The plan is to post them Tuesday, Sept. 7.
