A little bit bitch and a little bit buddhist always at the intersection of biology, gender, race, and culture. This blog documents my experience as a Canadian postdoc living and working in the United States. I can't promise to be PG13. In fact I promise not to be PG13.

Unpaid internships are a systemic labor exploitation scam- yes, in science labs too.
Bill Maher rules. Too bad the ones that need to listen, watch Fox and fill their souls with McHappy meals.
"The moneyed elite (ahem job creators) in this country are dragging a bag filled with your future down the steps, and [the Republican base's] reaction is, 'Hold on there, that looks heavy. Let me give you a hand getting it into your trunk." Bill Maher

"Like" I just wish Obama drove a harder bargain with these guys. I can't imagine the majority of the American public is sitting back and clapping their hands for the dirty politics that's been going on these last few months. Do the Republicans understand what it means to compromise?
I just don't understand their position sometimes. Especially when you have people like Buffet, Icahn, Ellison and Woertz going, "We...want to pay more taxes."

Drive a harder Bargain? First of all, there is NO such thing as a bargain anymore but how does extortion sound? That hard enough foro you liberal? That is essentially what the Kenyan did threateneing to hold back Social Security checks which by the way have nothing to do with his situation. It was just a threat, a scare tactic and it was stupid. When you suggested Republicans don't know how to compromise, I ask why the hell should they? Unless of course you want to get a new credit card to use to make payments on the ones you are already at your limit with, adding yet another payment at the end of the month you are already borrowing to make the payments on.
Seriously, you democrats need to get some math skills, this isn't that hard to figure out and it makes NO LOGICAL SENSE to raise the debt limit. What you are suggesting they do is a choice between losing, and losing real bad. I say we quit playing the damn stupid game and start playing to win by playing the rules any average accountant could explain the need to comply with.
Jeeez and you're a PhD??
Hey Kent, how many times have Republicans had no problem raising the debt ceiling in the past? This is all bullshit politics.
A real discussion about debt has to include a discussion about revenue. The solution to the problem is not to cut extremely important institutions like social security, medicare, education, and scientific research while leaving tax breaks for the rich and oil tycoons in place.
Finally, there's a huge difference between knowledge and opinion.
