Howdy Fellow LabSpaces Bloggers,

I am very sorry to see the two departures from LabSpaces today. Tideliar and Genomic Repairman, it's been a pleasure and an honor interacting with you. Sorry to see you go, but I will continue to enjoy your posts wherever your internet travels take you.

In reading the respective departure posts, I noticed complaints regarding bloggers who haven't been terribly prolific with their posts. I'm certain that I would fall into that category…and possibly even other categories listed as frustration points. In the interest of not tarnishing the reputation of LabSpaces or contributing to the exodus of additional, more prolific bloggers, I want to make it clear that I will amicably surrender my blogging pen here at LabSpaces if the overlords deem it appropriate.

When I accepted Brian's kind invitation to blog at LabSpaces, I mentioned that, due to various other commitments, I wouldn't be able to be as prolific as some of his other bloggers. Those other commitments have lived up to (and, as of lately, far exceeded) my estimation of their time. Such is life, and we all have to prioritize our time as we see fit.

I'll leave the final decision up to Brian and anyone else he may wish to consult on this matter. As I said, I will accept any decision regarding my fate cordially. To the extent that I'm able, I would rather be part of the solution than the problem.

It's probably best to save any further response pending a decision from Brian, but I would like to mention that it has been a wonderful experience interacting with everyone here--thank you.

I'm not kicking anyone out. Do what you like with your blog space, Michelle. I think the biggest gripe is my inability to keep you all well informed about what was going on behind the scenes. I never intended for this to blow up as it has and I only made that post a few days ago to inform you of why I was making changes. I wasn't trying to stoke fires or throw anyone under the bus. This whole situation is regrettable.

Maybe we should make some sort of council or advisory board?

Again, I'm very sorry about all of this. I'm very sad to see both Tideliar (and likely others) go. This didn't have to happen and really comes down to poor communication on my part. Hoptfully we can all work something out so tensions don't erupt like this in the future.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply. I noticed in another thread that you're traveling this week. Please don't feel compelled to respond immediately.

I realize this is a complicated situation and that there are many issues at hand here. I certainly also understand (and respect) frustrations that were raised today.

If the powers that be are fine with me staying, then so be it. I merely wanted to mention that I am aware that my lack of activity has an effect on other bloggers and that I accept responsibility and any repercussions for this.

If there is anything I can do (including being present at any discussions about the issue), then I will make it a priority to be there.

Additionally, I will try to be better about posting more frequently. Once I get something of a groove going, I'd like to participate in some of the blogging themes here. I felt it was better to wait until I got used to blogging though.

Again, let me know if I can help.

No one should leave because their blogging is sporadic.

I'm a bit disappointed by this whole situation, and I'm sorry to see the departures as well. However in all this clamor for transparency I have seen relatively little discussion of these problems in the Forum*. Now, it's possible that I missed it, but I know quite a bit occurred privately. So, while Brian has to ultimately shoulder the burden for what has transpired, I do not place blame only on him. I think all sides involved could have handled this better.

From what I have seen, Brian has been receptive to internal criticism and correction. I may not agree with everything he says or does, but I see someone who really wants to give LS a chance to succeed and is willing to trust other people to assist him in achieving that goal. For that, I think he is to be given a lot of credit. I think our community has lost a few valuable members, and they will surely be missed, but I think in the long run things will be fine.

*We can bitch in 160 characters or less on Twitter but not make a public forum post on Labspaces so everyone can chime in? WTF folks.

I'd say that's it exactly TJ. There was a major breakdown in communication here.  I had no intention of hurting anyone's feelings with that post, but I thought it was important to let everyone know WHY I was making changes and give them the opportunity to provide their feedback and thoughts.

Thanks for the kind replies everyone. I'll keep trucking along at my own (hopefully improving) pace. :)
