Do whatever you like. If it isn't bird flu, then it will be something even more deadly later. Something's got to give. It is simple population dynamics, and we certainly aren't doing our part to help Earth help us.

I am neither an immunologist, nor do I have any idea how much that would cost, but it would seem like those wanting to prevent a pandemic would naturally strive to vaccinate people who live in high risk areas like this.

I think giant research countries like the US have a pretty good track record of screwing over third world countries when it comes to vaccines (Rotashield), so although I think it's selfish, I can see where Indonesia is coming from by asking for some guarantees that they will get some benefit out of providing these samples.
