Here are a few things I plan to do in the future on the website. Please add any other suggestions to this forum post.

Product Finder - Search all of the major product vendors from one simple page on this site

RA Finder - Post Job openings in the lab for technicians or research assistants

Postdoc Finder - Post openings in your lab for post docs

Favorite Links database - Add your favorite science and non-science links and rank them based on popularity. I will also add a "Favorite links" section to your personal homepage.

CV generator - Since Labspaces is basically your on-line CV it should be relatively easy to convert all of your information in the database into a word document that you can then use as a foundation for a CV

Science Content Storage - Store recent seminar presentations or posters on your labspaces profile for others to view and download.

Event Scheduler - If you have a lot of friends on Labspaces, or want to get the word out about an upcoming meeting you can then extend an invitation to other users on Labspaces.

This last one is kind of a back burner idea... But, I might start a science nerd T-shirt design section on the site. I haven't seen many good science related t-shirts out there. I think we as a community could probably come up with a few good ideas :)

Again, add any of your suggestions for future "Modules." I'm always looking for new ideas!

Just a suggestion but in the profile area, the Title pull down is very "academia" specific. If you're planning on getting industry people to sign up in the future you might want to add, just "M.S." and just "Ph.D." and "Research Scientist" etc for the peeps that are no longer graduate students etc....

Good idea, I'll see what I can do to fix that.

Wow, I posted this almost a year ago and have yet to tackle one of those projects... Haha, I'll get around to those some day, although I doubt I'll do the product finder or science content storage (You can do that with the blogs). A job listing section and event scheduler might be useful, but for now I'll focus on the video conferencing system

I like the feature of being notified of new comments on a thread by email, but at some point I often like to unsubscribe. I don't see a way to do that.

Just a couple of suggestions from my perspective as a reader ...

1. The site-wide RSS feed only gives the name of the post and nothing else. It would be good to know who wrote it and perhaps at least a couple of lines of text.

2. It will be impossible for outsiders to follow individual bloggers unless they have their own pages. Right now, links in their profile only seem to go back to their external blogs.

3. RSS feeds for individual bloggers would also help for #2, particularly as you've got a whole lot of new people recently and the site-wide RSS feed tends to clog up the Reader list. Eventually, I'll probably just delete it because I don't want to be clicking on fifty bazillion links to find the blogger(s) I like.

Best of luck with everything!

PiT,
We do have individual home pages - click on the Blogs link at the top of the page, scroll down the Writers list to the blog you're interested in and click on their picture. And there are RSS feeds for the individual bloggers on their home pages. Right now you need to scroll down to the bottom of the right hand column to find the link.

Aaaaaah, so that's how you find the individual blogs! Thanks. The problem is that if you follow a link from the RSS feed, you get the post but to get back to the author's blog from there you have to click through their profiles. Or at least that has been the case for the ones I've read off the RSS feed up until now. It's also a little confusing because when you look at your profiles, several people have their homepages listed as their former Blogspot pages - the "View User's Blogs" link is hidden towards the bottom of the screen.

Anyway, just some feedback from a reader. Great to see all of you here.

PiT, wow, great suggestion. Take a look at the feed now and let me know if it's better! I totally forgot to update that xml output, so thank you very much for bringing it to my attention!

PiT, I added a link below each user's picture "View All Posts" and a link at the bottom of every post "Go back to my Post List." Like, dislike? Thanks for the great feedback.

Much better! I had already deleted the site-wide RSS feed from Reader so I can't see if that is any different.

I upped the ante on the "View post list" Added: Previous, Post list, and Next. With title goodness.
