Project for Awesome! Dec 17/2010

Hey guys! It's just about that time of year again P4A is almost upon us.

If you don't know, Project for Awesome is an amazing youtube event that's been going on since 2007. It was created by the VlogBrothers (http://www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers) and this year it will be on Dec 17th.

Some background on them, The VlogBrothers are two self proclaimed nerds who happen to be brothers - Jonh  is an author, Hank is an environmental scientist - who live far away from each other, and started using youtube as a way to keep in touch. Over time they grew to have a huge audience, affectionately called the Nerd Fighters.

Since 2007 Hank and John have been hosting this thing called Project for Awesome. It is a day in which rather than seeing youtube filled w unimportant crap, all the members of NerdFigtheria come together to make it about charity and helping each other and just being awesome.

Here is this year's explanation vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uTeK3Dv-hs

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. If you can, you are asked to make a short vid about your favorite charity and help promote it. You upload it as a vid response to their vid on the topic, using a thumbnail they will provide.

Then the huge army of nerd fighters goes on a 24hr trolling spree and comments/views/rates/favorites/ subscribes to the all these P4A vids, thus making the most viewed, discussed, and rated vids be alll about being awesome and helping out.

I just found out about this last year at the last minute and made a lame vid that you can see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJEAjKh5aqw

I watched and rated and commented on hundreds of vids, many of them were so very touching, real stories of people's lifelong struggles, and how they are overcome by others helping out.

As you can see the vids DO NOT have to be good quality, or long, or anything really, it can be as creative or interactive as you like, it can be a pic montage, it can be subtitled, voice over, you don't have to be in it either. It can be anything you like.

I was hoping we could get everyone here involved, leading the way on the road to awesome.

PLUS, it would be really good publicity for us. If we could get the Nerd Fighters of NerdFighteria aware of our existence, and better yet, if we can get the attention of John and Hank for a plug, we could seriously increase our readership.

This year Youtube is taking them very seriously and is going to live stream the whole event. The VlogBrothers along with other youtube famous nerdfighters are having a 24 live show throughout this campaign, during which they raise money for charity and allow you to watch entertaining stuff.

So what do you say? Are you guys in?

*Side note: This is just one of the many many awesome things the VlogBrothers do.

Yup, it's about promoting charity, cooperation, and being awesome. Most poeple pick their fav charity, or one they volunteer with, or that's helped them personally and talk about that.

Many vids are of teens talking about their experiences w diabetes, cancer, you name it.. really touching stuff.
