Hello boys and girls!

Today's post is going to veer a bit from the usual science-y topics, and will be dedicated to increasing the world's awesome quotient.

You may be thinking to yourself, 'Wow! Increasing world AWESOME sounds like a great idea! But, how can we do that?'

Well I am glad you asked!

As it turns out, there is a large group of people who has been actively doing just that since 2007.

You may be familiar with the online phenomenon that is the Nerd Fighters, of Nerd Fighteria, under the leadership of the VlogBrothers.

The VlogBrothers is a YouTube channel, created by the brothers Hank and John Green, for the purpose of keeping in touch with each other. If you have some time, you should really check out their videos, 'cause they are very entertaining, and you will definitely learn something. Their correspondence videos were so awesome to begin with that over time they got more and more people following them.

These followers are now known as the army of 'Nerd Fighters', their land is of course 'Nerd FIghteria', and Hank and John have harnessed the power of the Nerd Fighters and use it to eliminate world suck, and exponentially increase world Awesome.

Every year since 2007, a day is selected in which the Nerd Fighter army is called to duty. That day, is Project for Awesome day (P4A).

The idea is to have a day in which YouTube's main page will be filled with real meaningful stuff, charities, people helping each other out, and being awesome to each other, humanity at its best, as opposed to just kittens, and babies, and the typical type videos that get millions of views.

The way it happens is simple. We all make short videos about our favorite charity, one that has helped us or someone we know, a cause we care about that we wish to share with the world, an organization that is worthy of getting more attention. Whatever we see fit.

We talk about it, explain why it is dear to us, and link to more information about it, so that others can help out as well.

Hank and John will provide us with the thumbnail for our videos, that way, all the P4A vids will be easy to spot.

On P4A day, we all upload our videos as video responses to the main one Hank and John will post.

That is when the Nerd Fighters switch to high gear, and go on a commenting/viewing/favoriting rampage and throw tons and tons of love at ALL the P4A videos! Thus, making the P4A videos become the most rated, most viewed, most discussed and most loved videos for the day, and having YouTube's main page display nothing but P4A thumbnails.

This amazingly cool project has been growing fast. Throughout the 24hr project, Hank, John and plenty of other Nerd Fighting celebs will be having a live stream show, keeping us all entertained, and raising money for charity, while we go on our commenting/rating binge.

This year, YouTube is taking the project very seriously, and will be live streaming directly from LA a 4hr chunk of this event!

Anyone and everyone is welcomed, and encouraged to participate in the project and help increase world Awesome!

It's easy, and it's fun, and it is for a great cause!

This year, Project for Awesome will take place on Dec 17th.

If you can make a short video, do it. If you can spend some time watching others' videos and rate, comment, favorite them, do it! If you can share the love and spread the word, DO IT!!!
